Trostburg

Trostburg
The Trostburg is located between Bolzano and Chiusa on the Brenner route through the lower Eisack Valley. The Trostburg was first mentioned in a document in 1173. Since 2005, the South Tyrolean Castle Museum has been located here. Worth seeing are especially the Gothic parlor with complete paneling and richly decorated beamed ceiling as well as the library, one of the most famous of its time. The Trostburg can only be reached on foot: From Waidbruck (parking lot - about 15 minutes by car from our farm), the Trostburgweg, a medieval cobblestone path, leads steeply up to the castle in about 15 minutes. The Burgfrieden path is a little longer, but less steep.
